Author Visits:
I love doing author visits and can offer several options!
For assemblies and larger gatherings, I can offer a 45 minute slide presentation on the importance of representation in children’s books (with an emphasis on Asian American representation), followed by a 15 minute Q&A.
For individual classroom visits, I can offer the slide presentation and a Q&A, or I can offer short creative writing lessons and writing exercises. I can also mix and match!
My presentation draws upon my experience as an author of YA and MG books with Asian American protagonists, my mentorship with the We Need Diverse Books organization, and my equity-minded teaching of Children’s Literature, Creative Writing, English, and Intercultural Communication.
Anti-Oppressive Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Workshops:
As an anti-oppressive educator, I am committed to social justice, culturally responsive teaching, and equitable educational access. That is why I am so excited about the potential of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) for implementing just educational practices. In my own classes, I use an anti-oppressive UDL framework to design equitable policies, practices, instruction, activities, and assessments.
I am now thrilled to offer workshops and consultations on an anti-oppressive UDL framework to schools and other educational institutions. I have extensive experience in teaching, presenting, and facilitating discussions about anti-oppressive pedagogy, and I would love to share what I’ve learned with you.
My workshop would be a good fit for schools and educational institutions that are interested in learning about how a paradigm shift to a UDL framework, with its emphasis on accessibility and flexibility, will result in educational equity, greater student success, and more sustainable teaching.
Fees and formats for both the author visits and the anti-oppressive UDL workshops are available in the dropdown menu.
